Gary Ditlow 845-424-4243 My first thrill as a photographer was seeing a photograph magically appear in the darkroom. Over time, I’ve learned that photography is about creating art, not taking pictures. I’m always pushing the frontier by setting improbable goals for myself and then trying to achieve them. My journey as a photographer is ultimately the one within. I record in photos what I see and feel but I always keep asking myself the question “What are you waiting for . . . . to do your best?” Over the past 10 years, I’ve had a renewed interest in photography and began a long term documentary project on Amish life. I’ve studied at the Westchester Art Workshop where I first met several photographers who are members of the Ground Glass Club. Recently, I’ve been taking courses at the International Center of Photography in Manhattan. My current interests are documentary photography, portrait photography, and environmental portraits. Photography for me is a way of balancing my technical and artistic interests. Digital photography is a convenient blending of these two areas. During the day, I work at the IBM Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY designing high performance computer chips. I’ve worked there for 30 years after receiving degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I often wonder how different my life would be if I had decided to work 30 years as a photographer instead. |
